National Cost Collection Timeline

Closed 6 May 2020

Opened 23 Apr 2020

The NHS England and NHS Improvement Pricing and Costing team have compiled the following survey to enable us to better understand how we can effectively support you in submitting this year’s National Cost Collection.

As we previously advised on 3 April 2020, the Acute and Community sector collection windows will no longer open in June 2020, nor will they open until at least after the revised date for the audited financial statements has passed. However, we are looking at various options for potential collection windows and we therefore would like to gather your views via this survey to determine your organisation’s preferences.

As such, we would very much appreciate it if you could answer the initial question, on which of the four alternative collection windows would work best for your organisation. This will enable us to make a decision which will be the most effective for the sector as a whole. There are then further questions on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic which will help us better understand the challenges your organisation faces.

If you have concerns that your trust may have issues with submitting mandated cost information, including the two new required extract specifications for the Acute sector, or want to talk through other specific concerns, please contact us at You can also use our call surgeries or arrange a 1:1 chat in our coffee and connect sessions.

This survey will be open until Wednesday 6 May 2020 and we will publish our decision as soon as possible after this date.
